Seven-Year-Old Ranchi Swimmer Ishank Prepares for ‘Mission Samandar’ to Script Guinness World Record History
Seven-year-old Ishank from Ranchi is preparing for ‘Mission Samandar’, aiming to swim 30 km from Sri Lanka’s Talaimannar to India’s Dhanushkodi. Training rigorously since early childhood, he seeks to enter the Guinness World Records with this historic open-water challenge.
Ishank is currently engaged in rigorous day-and-night training, spending hours in the water to prepare for the daunting task. His ambitious journey is scheduled to begin on April 29 from Rameswaram. He will depart for Rameswaram on April 22. On April 30, Ishank will commence his swim from Talaimannar, aiming to cover a distance of 30 kilometers and reach Dhanushkodi, the last point of India, entirely by swimming.
According to his mother Manisha, swimming has been Ishank’s first choice since early childhood, and he has been training in the sport since the age of two and a half years. His father Sunil has been his primary guide throughout this journey. The family, along with the swimming team, will travel to Talaimannar via sea route on April 30 and remain on a boat overnight before the mission begins.
Ishank is undergoing intense training at Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi, where he practices for four to five hours daily, covering distances of 15 to 20 kilometers. His mother further stated that he also undertakes an extended eight-hour training session once every week, accompanied by his full swimming team. His coach Aman Kumar Jaiswal is providing him with personal training, while Bajrang Kumar is also contributing to his preparation.
As part of his preparation, Ishank will travel to Kochi on April 11 to participate in an open water swimming competition in the Periyar River. The competition has no age restriction and is open to all participants. Demonstrating exceptional talent, Ishank has already proven his capabilities in several national swimming competitions. On February 22, he secured third place in the Gateway of India event, completing a one-kilometer swim in the Arabian Sea. He has also delivered strong performances in district-level competitions while maintaining good academic progress.
With an extraordinary combination of discipline, training, and ambition at such a young age, Ishank’s ‘Mission Samandar’ stands as a significant and daring attempt that could redefine endurance swimming records and inspire a new generation of athletes.
